The Maines Brothers Band traces its origins to the mid-1950s with James and Sonny Maines, the father and uncle of the current members. Initially performing as "The Little Maines Brothers Band," they eventually adopted the name "The Maines Brothers Band" and began to make a name for themselves in the Texas music scene. Their dedication to their craft and authentic sound led to a recording contract with Mercury/Polygram Records in the mid-1980s, where they achieved a top-20 country hit with "Everybody Needs Love on Saturday Night" in 1985.

In 2023, a segment of Farm to Market Road 40 that runs through Acuff was designated "The Maines Brothers Band Highway," honoring their contributions to Texas music.
